Bedan law student Jean Nickolai Ventura entered the College of Law in the early days of the pandemic. Currently a sophomore, he has been adjusting to distance learning as well as the workload in studying law.

“It was a learning curve and I was hesitant at first because imagine going to school for the rest of your life and then in just a snap of the fingers, you’ll be learning things online. As a student who frequented the school library or cafés to study, I had to set up my study space at home because going out is not an option,” he said.

Notwithstanding the challenges, Nickolai looks at the silver lining—the elimination of stress brought about by daily commuting.

Meanwhile, he still encourages prospective law students to “go for it” and take up law with enough preparations and adjustments.

“Mentally and physically brace themselves because this is a huge transition […] Give yourself the time to adjust. Be patient. Whether online or not, just like in life, the journey is never easy and it will take time. There will be ups and downs. Sigurado ako, certainly sa downs marami ‘yan. I think what is important is that you have to keep moving forward and be prepared for everything life throws at you,” Ventura expressed when asked about his advice to those planning to pursue the study of law.

In these trying times, Nickolai also reminds us to be kind and patient with ourselves so that we can attain school-life balance.
