thebarrister held its annual journalism seminar earlier today, December 12.

In his speech, Atty. Joseph Andres, adviser of thebarrister, opened the event by emphasizing that “learning has no boundaries.” He reminded the entire publication that one can only learn more by learning from other writers.

Journalists Christian John Gamarcha of Panay News, Joseph Bernard Marzan of Daily Guardian, and Christina Gayle Dormal of Bluqube Inc. shared their passion and expertise in Feature Writing, News Writing, and Layout design, respectively.

Apart from the basic elements and principles of writing, the speakers also introduced visual storytelling strategies through writing and designing as ways of communication which may be useful in this age of digital media.

The seminar was filled with discussions and exercises relevant to campus journalism. Although conducted online, the event proved to be interactive as it tested the creative juices of the participants especially during the lectures where members of the student publication were called to participate by giving their impressions on some feature articles, identifying vital facts in news articles, as well as comparing better visual designs and layouts.

Notwithstanding the changes that come with the advent of new normal, the seminar was a testament that learning is a continuing process that goes beyond digital barriers. The event strengthened the skills and knowledge of members while also staying true in its promise of bringing quality content to the Bedan community.
