With the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, a recent report from the Law Student Government (LSG) showed that a number of Bedan law students are infected by the COVID-19 virus and are experiencing flu symptoms.
Around 230 SBU-COL students have manifested COVID-19 symptoms while 79 students are reported to be positive with the virus, the report, which was obtained by thebarrister, stated. There are currently 110 students who are residing with a COVID-19-positive household member.
Meanwhile, nine students are yet to recover from the onslaught of Typhoon Odette which struck parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
The report found 44.52 percent of freshmen students, 42.68 percent of sophomore students, 40.16 percent of junior students, and 30.77 percent of senior students are affected by the surge of COVID-19 and flu cases and by the damage caused by Typhoon Odette.
In light of these findings, the LSG sent the SBU-COL administration a request for health break from January 10 to 15.
The said request was, however, denied as some “students do not have any class standing” yet for the finals period.
Instead, asynchronous classes may be held, subject to professors’ discretion and upon request of the subject beadle.
Last January 4, the LSG also requested to move the opening of classes due to several reports of students testing positive for COVID-19 and flu. The same request was denied.
SBU-COL administration, however, approved the request of the LSG for the relaxation of the College of Law’s academic policy pertaining to the boycott rule. —with reports from Gilda Francesca G. Flores
