MENDIOLA, MANILA โ The first-ever Online Career Fair was conducted yesterday through the joint efforts of the San Beda University-College of Law (SBU-COL) and the Law Student Government (LSG). The whole day event showcased speakers from a wide array of law firms and organizations aimed to introduce future Bedan lawyers to different career options.
The set of speakers include Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra (Gorriceta Law), the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz Law (ACCRA Law), ACUBE Law, and The Habitat For Humanity.
Atty. Lyan Juanico, SBU-COLโs Administrative Officer, gave the opening remarks, emphasizing that the event was created to showcase career opportunities while studying in law school or after passing the Bar.
The first speaker, Atty. Edsel Tupaz, represented Gorriceta Law. Founded in 2015, his firm specializes in corporate, commercial, and tax practice and garnered multiple accolades over the years. Atty. Tupaz and the team in Gorriceta Law is a โsolution-orientedโ firm and they hope to recruit talented individuals who share the same vision.
The second speaker was Director Frederick Romero, Ph.D., of the Intellectual Property Office. Director Romero explained that interested interns are expected to deal with the legal aspect of patents, trademark, copyright and other innovations.
The third speaker was Atty. Antonio Eduardo Nachura, Jr. from ACCRA Law, together with Bedan lawyers working as associates for the said firm. ACCRA Law introduced its stellar portfolio of well-known practicing lawyers from top universities, as well as the various areas of law practice where interested undergraduates can be trained.
The fourth speaker was Atty. Jan Aliling from ACUBE Law. With ACUBE Law being a relatively small-medium sized firm, Atty. Alilingโs highlighted their ability to handle their clientsโ problems in a more โpersonalizedโ way, and how it can serve as a good training ground for young and starting lawyers to increase their confidence and skill set.
The last speaker for the career fair was Ms. Ariane Alligayu of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a non-governmental organization which aims to make housing more accessible and affordable, especially for low income families. Alligayu emphasized the NGOโs need for part-time legal assistants and paralegals who can help them in the various contracts that they are entering into with their partners from different sectors.
To conclude the event, SBU-COL Dean Marciano Delson emphasized that the online career fair may be the beginning of other similar programs to help prepare Bedan law students once they finish their juris doctor degrees.
