The San Beda International Law Society (ILS) bagged the 5th overall best team in the Asia-Pacific Regionals and qualified for the Globals of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) International Arbitration Moot Court Competition last August 27.

The moot court competition was facilitated via Zoom and organized by the Center for International Legal Studies. It was divided into Group Phase that consisted of four hearings, which lasted from August 19 to 21. The Eliminations round (Quarters to Finals) was held from August 26 to 27. The winners in the Eliminations who will advance to the Globals were determined by Region.

The San Beda ILS, the official representative in moot court competitions of the San Beda University College of Law (SBU-COL) is the sole team from the Philippines. The ILS moot team was composed of seven law students, namely Cedrick Cabaluna, Madelene De Borja, Camille Flores, Josh Gadot, Hannah Makilan, Aran Mendoza, and Iyah Sevilla.

The mooters hold their training after class hours under the mentorship of Atty. Jecko Bello, Atty. Jean Galvez, Atty. Zoilo Velasco, Atty. Mitzie Castro, and Mr. Ferdinand Jomilla Jr. They were also guided by their adviser, Atty. Junmar Denila.

The ILS mooters said that it took months of preparation. According to them, these sacrifices have ripened into fruition. They carry with them significant lessons on time management and work ethic. They also encourage SBU-COL students to join organizations and competitions for the invaluable skills and family they can gain.

The Globals will be held in-person on November 3 to 6 at King’s College in London, United Kingdom (UK).
