History is written by the victors.
However, the cause of the struggles and endeavors remains unclear. We try to build or to protect something. Trials are meant that way – to establish a particular right or status, or achieve a certain truth. Also, a trial is proving that someone is amiss or negligent, or acted in such a particular way of crossing the bounds of law or morality.
This second issue of “The Trial” is a progression of what was anticipated within the past few months. It may be historical in the legal profession. It may also be monumental in Philippine history. All eyes on the news. For history is a pendulum repeating itself, so we ought to know and prevent the mistakes of the past. The maxim is also evident with our study of law, as various cases became touchstones to progress.
Going back, the 125th Founding Anniversary of San Beda University is also this year’s highlight. We ought to go back to our roots, as there is a vivid encounter of our identity as Bedans, with such historicity.
Our actions now may be the legacy we are to share.
Thus, this second issue is also a standpoint where the publication is. Last time, we held a statement for accountability. Our social media was colored white. The magazine’s theme is the same, as continuity for the search for truth is still in progress. On a personal note, it was a call I would never forget. I was confronted with what a Bedan is, and what I am trying to pursue.
Lastly, I would again like to thank the publication for being unwavering and untiring even though there were cuts and losses on their end. You guys proved that our hard work is about your principles and aspirations. We won awards from the previous publication years. It is not empty and meaningless, for it is the reflection of who you are – the principle, aspiration, advocacy, and conviction.
Black and white have been the primordial colors since time immemorial. It is the same color symbolized with light and darkness, vagueness and clarity, and emptiness and fulfillment. Now, let these colors be the symbol of a movement from query to certainty. From there, may we learn from our roots and harvest the lessons we need in the journey.
